TRIP ITINERARY

The Salkantay Trek 5 days to Machu Picchu starts early in the city of Cusco, with hotel pickup between 4:30 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. During this time, the guide will pick up each traveler before heading to the town of Mollepata, a trip of approximately two hours. Upon arrival, you’ll enjoy a typical breakfast (not included in the tour) and have time to buy supplies before continuing to Soraypampa, the starting point of the trek.

In Soraypampa, you’ll meet the team of muleteers and horses that will accompany the Salkantay Trek expedition. After organizing your luggage and duffel bags, you’ll begin the first hike to Humantay Lagoon, located at 4,200 m above sea level. The route begins at 3,900 meters with a gradual climb of about two hours, crossing beautiful Andean landscapes.

Upon reaching the Humantay Lagoon, you’ll enjoy free time to take photographs, admire the turquoise water, and listen to the guide’s explanations about the importance of this sacred site. The visit lasts approximately an hour and a half, depending on the weather.

Afterwards, you’ll begin the descent to the Quiswarniyoc Camp, a section that combines a one-hour descent with a gentler 45-minute hike. You’ll typically arrive at the camp around 2:00 p.m., where a delicious lunch prepared by the group chef awaits you.

After lunch, you’ll relax in your private cabin or explore the camp’s surroundings, which offer stunning views of Salkantay Mountain. In the evening, around 6:00 p.m., you’ll enjoy a hot dinner and a briefing about day two of the trek, during which you’ll reach the highest point of the entire Salkantay Trek 5-Day to Machu Picchu.

Upon arriving at Llactapata, you’ll find a set of little-visited Inca ruins that offer a stunning panoramic view of Machu Picchu, Wayna Picchu, and the Andean mountains.
