TRIP ITINERARY

We will pick you up from your hotel at 5:00 a.m. to begin the exciting adventure of the Lares Trek and Short Inca Trail 5 Days 4 Nights to Machu Picchu. Pick-up locations include any hotel, condominium, or apartment in Cusco, Urubamba, Huaran, or Pisaq. During the three-hour journey, you will traverse the majestic Andes and the spectacular scenery of the Sacred Valley.

Upon arrival at the Lares Hot Springs, you will enjoy your first breakfast with panoramic views of the Andean mountains. Afterward, you can relax in the various natural pools, which range from cold to hot. These volcanic waters are known for their therapeutic properties and benefits for bones, muscles, and joints.

After the thermal bath, we will continue for 20 minutes to Punta Carretera (3,300 m / 10,827 ft), the starting point of the trek. Here you will meet the horses and riders who will accompany the expedition and hand over your duffel bag. From that moment, your trek to Machu Picchu will begin with a gradual ascent of approximately two hours until you reach the first settlement, Kiswarani, where we will have lunch. This section is known as the Potato Valley, as various varieties of organic potatoes are cultivated here. Your guide will also show you the native medicinal plants that grow along the trail.

After lunch, our riders will perform a traditional llama ceremony. Llamas were sacred animals to the Incas and a symbol of nobility. You will learn about their historical significance and how local communities are working to preserve this species today. Llamas are docile and friendly, but be careful: they might try to kiss you!
Later, you will have the opportunity to explore the village and visit some local homes to learn about ancestral traditions and the way of life of Andean families. If time permits, we will visit the local school, where children still learn in Quechua, the ancient Inca language. If you wish, you can bring small gifts such as notebooks, pencils, or toys to share with them.

The day will conclude with a two-hour uphill hike to the campsite, where our team will be waiting with tents set up. Upon arrival, you can enjoy hot drinks as the sky fills with stars. Finally, you will enjoy a delicious Andean dinner prepared by our chef right on the mountain. If you wish, you can stay and observe the constellations or get an early rest to prepare for the next day’s adventure.

The tour will take us to the impressive archaeological complex of Wiñay Wayna, whose name means “Forever Young.” This site is considered a jewel of the Inca Trail due to its agricultural terraces, staircases, and excellent state of preservation. Your guide will explain its importance and how it was integrated into the Inca road network (Qhapaq Ñan).
